Spatial pattern of urban functions in the Beijing metropolitan region

چکیده
The morphology of a city affects its ecological and socioeconomic functions, and thus how a city is spatially structured has important bearings on urban sustainability. The paper analyzes the spatial pattern of Beijing in relation to its urban functions. Our results show that the 6 concentric ring-roads in Beijing provide a basic framework for the city’s overall spatial pattern, andalso give its apparent resemblance to the classic concentric zone theory. The paper identifies 5 concentric zones for Beijing based on a suite of urban functions. However, there are significant differences between the urban spatial pattern of Beijing and that depicted in the classic concentric zone theory. The study sheds new lighton the urbanmorphology of one of themajor Chinese cities, and provides needed information for developing plans to diffuse urban functions in Beijing. 2009 Elsevier Ltd. متن کاملAn Analysis of Spatial Pathology of the Physical and Social Structure of the City with Non-Relevant Defense Approach Case Study: Tehran Metropolitan Area
Using the passive defense principles in urban plans and projects is important in the context of land use planning, reinforced concrete, citizen education, and increasing urban resiliency. Observing and adhering to these principles will reduce the vulnerability of the city and citizens to security and military threats. Therefore, this study aims at evaluating the spatial pathology of the physica...
متن کاملAN EVOLVEMENT MODEL FOR A METROPOLIS: a case study on the evolution of spatial and functional patterns of Beijing city
The urban area of Beijing has sharply increased during the last decades. To better understand the mechanism and the nature of the metropolitan evolvement, this study explores and elucidates the evolution of spatial and functional patterns of Beijing, and investigates the relationship between urban spatial and functional patterns throughout this evolution process. In the thesis, spatial pattern ...
متن کاملSpatial heterogeneity of urban soils: the case of the Beijing metropolitan region, China
Introduction: Urban soils are large pools of carbon, nitrogen, and other elements, supporting plant growth, sustaining biogeochemical cycles, and serving as the foundation for maintaining ecosystem function and services of urban green spaces (UGS). Quantifying urban soil properties is essential for assessing urban ecosystem services and detecting pollution. Characterizing spatial heterogeneity ...
